Kathmandu: The National Land Commission has requested the landless squatters and unorganized residents not to be removed from their places of residence.
Today, the commission published a notice and requested them not to remove them and not to act unsafely until the data collection and verification work is completed.
In order to prepare for resuming the work of verification and data collection that was stopped during the election, the commission said, ‘Until the work of data collection and verification is completed, all local levels including the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and all government and non-government bodies have been instructed to remove the settlements of landless Dalits, landless squatters and unorganized residents of any location. This notice has been published not to do anything to remove them and make them unsafe.’
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is being criticized after it started removing the squatters from the Bagmati river bank in Thapathali. In the meantime, the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority has also issued a 35-day notice on 30th November and asked to vacate the encroached lands in the riverside and other areas.
