Shanghai: The former president of China, Jiang Zemin, has passed away on Wednesday.
He has passed away this afternoon in Shanghai due to unimaginable fluctuations in blood cells and white blood cells and multi-organ problems. Jiang was 96 years old. The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) has announced his death a while ago.
Former President Jiang led China as General Secretary of the CPC from 1989 to 2002, Chairman of the Central Military Commission from the same year to 2004, and President from 1993 to 2003.
Due to age and physical infirmity, Jiang had not been seen in public for the past three years. Three years ago, he attended the funeral of then Prime Minister Li Peng.
